El Celler De Can Roca Gets the World’s Most Weighty “Like”!
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO and founder of Facebook, is apparently a foodie and a fan of the Roca brothers. No big surprise there, considering the restaurant was voted the 2013 “World’s Best Restaurant”, but what WAS surprising was that he booked the brothers, months in advance, for not one but two important events, just 24 hours apart.
The first event was hosted at a private home in Barcelona during the Mobile World Congress. The Roca brothers packed up their cooking operation and did a private catering for the event, attended by such prominent people as Google’s Nikesh Arora. In total, 24 of the tech world’s biggest execs were treated to a feast cooked by the El Cellar De Can Roca team.
Joseph Roca was pleasantly surprised when the guests gave full homage to his food, despite the importance of the gathering.
A privately-cooked feast wasn’t enough for Facebook’s founder, though. The following night, Mark Zuckerberg traveled to Girona to surprise his wife with a birthday dinner at the World’s Best Restaurant. Surprisingly, Mr. Zucherberg’s table was the quietest in the place; phones were quietly set aside.
While other diners were snapping pictures of the dishes, Mark’s party savored each course. His wife confessed that he loves to cook and questions about how to achieve the flavors and textures of the dishes took precedence over “checking in.”
The party sampled wine from the Roca brothers’ extensive collection along with the meal. The menu was completely different than the night before, and Mr. Zucherberg was especially interested in the sourdough ice cream desert. The dish is part of El Somni, the restaurant’s new multi-sensory dining experience.
In addition to being voted 2013’s World’s Best Restaurant, El Cellar De Can Roca can now add the highest possible Facebook “like” to their list of achievements. It’s going to be another landmark year for the brilliant Roca brothers!
